Mobile and Smartphones and the Google search engine


Smartphones are becoming increasingly popular today and along with these phones comes improved capabilities for accessing websites. In order to provide the best service to their users, search engines such as Google, therefore, must ensure that environment are smartphones.
Google announces enhanced search technology Smartphone
In December, Google announced on its Webmaster Central blog that was now filled with a smartphone user-agent as well. For some time it has been used to track Googlebot-Mobile website, but has now added more functionality specific to smartphones with this new development. Google's blog said: "Today we are happy to announce that Googlebot-Mobile now crawls with a smartphone user-agent in addition to its previous phone features user agents. This is to increase our coverage of smartphone content and to provide a better search experience for smartphone users. (Google Webmaster Central Blog, December 15, 2011)
What this means for your website
If you have content that is specifically designed for smartphones, then you'll probably get better results from these pages. If you are using a direct new smartphones to transfer to these pages, the page redirect will now be indexed in the search engine for smartphones so that they no longer have to wait for this re-direct it helping to improve loading speed, albeit minimal. In general, these improvements are focused on search engine user, but in doing so you are sure to pass the benefits to the websites involved. If you have smart content, make sure that Googlebot-Mobile can crawl and treating you like a smartphone.
Mobile site optimization for search engines
On a final note, what should you do to ensure that your mobile site is receiving the attention it deserves from the search engines?
First, make sure that Google is actually found by doing a search for it. If not, be sure to submit a sitemap of your mobile pages for Google to index and make sure that you are allowing to trace Googlebot-Mobile.
Make sure your mobile pages use a document type definition that is compatible with mobile phones or Google does not see it as mobile content.
Use redirects to send mobile users to the same page in the mobile version of your website and ensure that your mobile site as closely as possible to your desktop version of site.
With smartphones becoming more popular, many webmasters are trying to develop sites that are friendly to these devices and the search engines also realize this. If you have content on your website smart sure that is optimized and crawled to get the right Googlebot.
